the costly supper.

i'll have to type faster now that the price of electricity has gone up by 21%. even blogging is becoming more of an expensive habit nowadays, like everything else. bloody subprime and loan defaulters.

last night i met up with the 4j dudes. it was good to see so many of them in one shot after so long. especially since there are NONE of them in signals, and in sierra wing ocs there were hardly any. come to think of it i think most 4j guys took the smarter way out and decided not to go there - and i should be very happy for them.

of course i was in a typical friday night good mood - though i was kind of shagged from playing too much (hmm never mind). we went to hang around clarke quay, your typical rich man's and expats' area. i felt kinda out of place as an NSF still in training, plus i was never really the clubbing type. unlike kezhong maybe.

so i don't know what exactly happened but we planned to eat at brewerkz. we got served by this fagut whose face i didn't like the moment he came to serve us. he kept pressurising us to place our orders even though we just bloody sat down. and he was like "5 minutes up" when we said we needed time to place our order.

talk about bad service, man. who the **** says "5 minutes up"!? i didn't know there was a time limit to this shit. if you wonder why they say singaporeans have bad service you don't need to look any further to this bodoh at brewerkz.

okay that was quite an uncalled-for rant over a small issue but nowadays i angst and rant too easily so never mind that. that fagut was to prove me right anyway. he acted like he was some professional and there was a real sense of arrogance about him. like he thought he was the most senior waiter around (probably, that loser was balding) and so he could talk down to us.

actually he wasn't exactly talking down, but his tone was just condescending. like "i recommend this, i recommend that, you don't know a shit" etc. you have to be there to experience it, though i don't recommend you do it. not worth the money at all. so he basically got us all to order our stuff, but thankfully as i was full, i gave it a pass.

oh by the way the reason why i was full was because there is a pasar malam near my place. DAMN SHIOK haven't had one for ages and now there's like one whole wide array of delicacies and sinful food that i can gorge on. growing fat, but who really cares since my life has no meaning now. the toys and misc stuff were a disappointment though - was expecting more.

to continue the digression a little, now the pasar malam games are excellent because they make use of new technology. where last time we used to roll balls into little pockets with 0,1,2,3 points demarcated on it, now they use a DIGITAL system and some advanced computerised shit to keep count. okay i make it sound very sophisticated and it really isn't but i'm just saying it because i've never seen anything like it before in the pasar malam.

now you know how deprived army kids get. NS sucks.

back to the topic (scroll up) - okay i was full. the bugger who served us went off to fleece some other customers while we just sat there talking cawk. the company was certainly great, though unfortunately we couldn't say the same for the food. i don't think it was that bad, but it certainly wasn't value for money.

the price discrimination sucked bad as well. for a first-timer to that area, i was kind of surprised where the price of beer was determined by timings. before 6pm was the cheapest, 6-8 middle range, and after 8pm (which was when we were there) was mother UNREASONABLE.

as an economics student, i did well to realise that beer obviously cost the same whatever time they were served, but idiots who had the inelastic demand for beer would order it nonetheless. and that my friends, would be ourselves. we wanted a drink so we bloody looked through the menu for something to drink, though the choices weren't many.

i mean, tomato juice was the cheapest thing on the list and it was around 8-9 bucks. no shitting. if i was in proper running attire i'd just get the hell out of there. so we decided to drag on the experience and order some real brew. after all, this was brewerkz, manzzz. you gotta be cool to drink the brew.

well we wanted to order a jug for all five of us - but the glib-tongued snake convinced us that it wasn't enough and to get a "tower", which was basically 4 litres of liquid diarrhoea. LOOKED LIKE IT AND TASTED LIKE IT. i was like raising my eyebrows in protest and giving a stunned face, as a few of us were but somehow a little silence led to consent and the order was on its way.

now the funny part comes. xj didn't exactly see the price so he said something to the effect of like never mind la how much did it cost. then kezhong placed the bombshell by saying it cost us a hundred quid - which generated an at least fifty-decibel "WHAT THE F***".

talk about recession. talk about price rise. talk about growing instability and here we are spending a hundred bucks on four litres of crap. dude i would rather drink from the stagmont taps and it might have tasted better. i swear i'd rather do fire movement for an hour than to suffer the ignominy of drinking beer again.

actually i'm quite a pussy. i hardly touched that stuff while kennet and cz downed their fair share plus mine. so i shouldn't be complaining except for the fact i was paying more money per 100ml than any of them. but i hate beer like shit. i never liked the stuff since i first drank it and i think i'll never like it. same goes for most alcohol.

the conversation, however, was much better than any i've had in a while. it's just nice chilling out and listening to ghost stories and all that crap so basically i felt like that night i was paying for the company. and that night, no matter how costly the experience, i also found out why businessmen get bankrupt more easily than certain others.

in life everything is about experience. it's funny they were talking about smoking and apparently a few of them tried puffing. i admit it was always on my mind to start since we have a few smokers in our camp and they don't seem all that unfit. plus army causes your mind to go numb so i've always had to entertain thoughts about smoking.

i'm glad my better judgment took over though. never tried puffing and probably wouldn't. some things you just don't want to experience. last night's experience came close to that, but i wouldn't go as far as to say that it truly sucked and is life threatening. except maybe the brew.

and that stupid waiter.. should just go sign on in the SAF. since he has such a glib tongue might as well make him permanent guard duty personnel. that way anyone who tries to trespass can get the hell out by his swift persuasion and ability to act. the way in which he carries out his shit is surprisingly efficient - something which the organisation could do with.

besides that, that waiter was a piece of shit so too bad he wasn't wearing a nametag. if he was i guarantee his name will be on my dartboard. son of a bitch.

all right that was all about brewerkz. the short tour around clarke quay with the 4j guys was quite a pleasant experience, taking in the sights and sounds. anything is good on a bookout day, man. went home about 2am using the NR1, a real life-saver. then found out there's also a price hike in night rider.

i've never hated economics so much.

navy seals ftw!~
