judgment week.
"Life, not death, is the great adventure" - Sherwood Anderson
(the owner of this quote died shortly after.)
three weeks of holiday down, and another three weeks to go. the second half promises to be much more exciting than the first, mainly because i sometimes like asking for trouble, and trouble is always exciting no matter how you look at it.
as i take stock of what i've done in the first half, it has sadly accumulated to.. nothing much. or rather, not many results. there was too much preparatory work, and too many lessons to be learnt.
some of them include:
- always stretch before and after soccer at cage
- always soak rice before putting into rice cooker
- never use 2B pencils on glossy surfaces
- orchard road is always damn crowded
- serangoon park connector is actually nice and chill
- punggol park is actually also nice and chill
- eagles have quite a few good songs
- start fast and furious for 2.4km runs
- when in doubt, leave chicken in the pot for longer
today marks the start of judgment week, and i hope to see some results of my efforts. i'm still doing cooking on an ad-hoc basis, but at least i won't be judged on that.
tuesday will be exciting, with results of my very first sem in uni coming out. same goes for my first IPPT test in the evening. i am wary of lofty expectations, but that's what you'd usually expect for giving your best.
wednesday and i go back to managing chelsea. this time, i'm supposed to teach physics and chemistry, both of which (especially the former) i dare not claim to be too strong in. the heat is on, but it's going to be fun while it lasts.
then.. many other things.
i was thinking of decision-making, one of the topics i studied in MNO. prof howard raiffa, for all his works on decision-making, could not make a simple decision concerning himself. it's easy to make decisions for others, but not when it concerns yourself.
on paper, this has been defined as perceptual bias. something which is closer to you hits home harder, and a potential loss is framed as larger than a potential benefit - so it's easier to humji and take the safer option.
which leads on to the topic of goals. (i'll laugh if i get a C for MNO)
i tried asking myself the ten must-ask questions for goals. i dug out my notes and very uncharacteristically pored over them. it's amazing how others can do so much research to derive these answers. or maybe they're just smoking, i don't know.
the only thing i know, was that when i was completely done with my notes, it was well past 1am again. think my sleep cycle just messed up once again.
moving on to less ambiguous stuff, the weekend was pretty crappy. premiership matches postponed. i don't watch all matches but having choices would be good. barely scraped a 9.39 for 2.4km, nowhere near my personal best. don't even remember what i did on sunday.
OH WELL.
it's time to stop this anticipatory debate. i'm going out to get judged.
