jokesssss..
morning: after summarising my cultural studies notes, i decided to go for an early lunch and start on accounting earlier in the afternoon so that i could go for some exercise.
i took my wallet and handphone, and left the house. i clicked the padlock shut, and before i could even walk down the stairs, a brainwave hit me and i was like "oh fuck!!"
some things don't get to you until it's too late. it is ALWAYS the case.
i mean, if i could suddenly remember that i had forgotten my keys, why could i not suddenly remember it a few moments ago? it was as if i needed the click of the padlock to remind me that i left the keys on my table.
naturally, i called my father to save the situation. he didn't pick up. i wound up having an extra long lunch and even chatting with the auntie at the youtiao stall. she's moving away, and i won't ever have cheap unhealthy food anymore. (sian, but that wasn't the point.)
i gave my father another call. still no response. that was after i spent a whopping 45 minutes eating lunch, which was no mean feat. try eating lunch for that long alone. it's really a challenge.
i checked my wallet for the keys again. nowadays you should never underestimate the power of optical illusions. i didn't find the keys i wanted, but the other one would have to do.
so that's how i spent the early afternoon - flying and zipping around for all i was worth. the youtiao auntie mentioned that 'students should not study too hard, they must learn to take a break and relax.'
i think she might have been talking to the wrong person. of all people, i should be learning lessons on how NOT to take a break and relax. i wouldn't believe that this was me if it were jc, because one day before the exam and i'm out having fun.
oh well, maybe studying before exams is but a heuristic.
my father eventually returned the call, albeit close to three hours after i left the house. he saved my sorry arse, although i was quite sad to return to studying.
evening: had an early dinner at this ba chor mee place that was supposed to be good. my father found a newspaper cutting today detailing all the best hawker stalls for each category of food. as a ba chor mee fanatic, i definitely was going to try any gourmet ba chor mee.
unfortunately, although the food was above average, it didn't live up to my heavenly expectations. ever since my favourite stall disappeared from 203@spring (wth would you want to renovate twice in a year?!), i've been searching (without much success) in the hope of finding a replacement.
ba chor mee is really demand inelastic nowadays. plus, the one i had costs a hefty $4. my old favourite only costs $2.50. that's economics for you - doesn't work.
i went back and ploughed through some balance sheets. it didn't balance. then my father called me out to watch gatekeepers, the channel 8 variety show where students would pit their wits against celebrities.
this week, my alma mater was featured. as they say 'rafflesians salute your alma mater', i could not help but take an interest in my alma mater.. PEI CHUN PUBLIC SCHOOL.
and chew chor meng was on it, too. i spent an hour watching it.
naturally, this being the last week of the show, they had to save the best for last. pei chun won by the slightest of margins, but it gave me that little bit of school pride.
now, back to accounting, which still does not seem to balance.
tomorrow is the cultural studies exam. i am all ready for the final stand. this is the classic underdog battle - for i got totally raped at consultation on monday. as i tried to give cultural analysis, my tutor stared at me as if i was jin telling his cold jokes.
i'm not giving up yet. the best chance for a person to score an A is when he hasn't taken the exam. imma savour these moments NOW.
g'luck to all taking exams!
