for old times' sake.

this is my last weekend out before NS.

it's not meant to be emo but yea these are facts of life everyone has to deal with. especially young singaporean men who has hit 18 years of age. woots!

anyway for some reason today there was some mass gathering at my grandma's place because everyone went. all the 2nd generation males somehow decided that today would be a good day to go so happy time for all of us.

the dinner was exceptional for once in a while and it was fun playing with my younger cousins. okay i usually don't play with them cos they're not there but i figured i wouldn't have much chance afterwards. aww.

went for dessert at serangoon gardens. just talking about it because it's rare that all the brothers and cousins were all there. i was the oldest there alr so i had to act noob and play with my younger cousins - but not that i mind. it's been a long while since playing noob.

then i realise i haven't been packing. zzz.

moving back earlier today, my family went to IMM for lunch and just to have a look at the place. i've been there with seals before and today's trip was just as uneventful. however i visited their popular branch and their selection seems wider hmm.

the h2 mathematics book caught my attention. as did the 1000 chemistry mcqs. i tried three random mcqs and i got them all so wrong. disgusted with my pathetic brainpower, i decided to spare myself from further hurt.

mathematical induction looked like a familiar stranger - but more a stranger than something i recognised. studying life has taken a break, but i'm not sure if i can let go. i think i don't feel like getting back to studying anymore, but that's dangerous.

still there's other things coming up soon so whatever.

moving further back in time, yesterday night was excellent. the jacky cheung concert was worth every single dollar! ZOMG whoever says he's old must be myopic or just plain dumb. the 46-year-old was prancing up and down with energy and excitment, shouting for all he was worth.

i'd say he's the craziest shit in the whole stadium that night. very excitingly, the "reckless young kids" - that is to say goon, mq and me - DID NOT BRING UMBRELLAS ON PURPOSE.. and so we arrived all drenched and it was really cold.

in fact my teeth were chattering for the whole of the first period, and actually throughout the concert. but that didn't stop us from being the wildest punks in our block. surprisingly there were quite a few youngsters there too, but i think the main idea was to PDA as we shrieked along.

basically the night was superb as jacky belted out some really violent opening songs to welcome us. then he went back to the classics which was really imba and 扣人心弦。good memories. he moved on to some really weird songs that he wrote in this era..

..of which some were just weird (he admitted it), but some still rather enjoyable. i admit i didn't recognise all the songs, in fact less than half - but even the songs that we didn't know sounded pretty melodious and beautiful. and that's why we went for the concert in the first place.

this concert also had him doing some sharing about his personal life. he talked quite a bit during the middle portions and some things he said were very true. like there's always the happy parts in life after the sad bits. (happy NS after sad A levels? LOL) and anyway it was always pretty interesting getting to know more about his life.

what a singer, man. and what a storyteller.

at half past ten he tried to pull a stunner by disappearing after he finished 雪狼湖。having been to other concerts before and seeing that no one was moving from their seats, it was obviously some stage stunt but i don't think anyone was getting fooled.

immediately the crowd went mad and started shouting. plus mq and i hadn't heard 情书 so we were pretty mad and adamant that he should come out and perform it for us. didn't happen. UNTIL A FEW MINUTES LATER.

or actually, it half happened because he did come out and start singing, just that it wasn't our song. he whacked a few cantonese and chinese songs - mostly classics - spontaneously and consecutively.

like zomg usually all the past concerts i watched at the indoor stadium had interludes or halftimes where i could go and pee. this one had me holding it in for almost two hours, but it was well worth it. i've no idea why he was so energetic and enthu, but i certainly wasn't about to complain.

in any case the last few songs were delightful. and prior to that he had sang classics like 每天爱你多一些 which was my personal favourite, so i can't really find any major faults for the night. okay long story cut short i enjoyed myself tremendously. by the end of the concert my voice was hoarse and my shirt was dry.

a perfect way to end off my final saturday out. his last song - 祝福 - fittingly seemed to be a kind of farewell to us as we prepared to start army life. hahaha okay maybe i'm thinking too much into it, but it reminded me of 搞笑行动 last time. sehr gut.

we went out into the midnight darkness and thankfully it wasn't raining or we'd just be doubly owned. managed to catch the last bus though it came like 15 minutes late and we almost thought of giving up and walking out.

which on hindsight thankfully we didn't or we'd be walking for very, very long. got to dhoby ghaut and some semblance of civilisation and supper. it was amusing, there were shitloads of taxis speeding past us at the traffic light and evidently business was bad.

well look at your fricking surcharges and make me wonder why please! i felt no pity at all for all the cab drivers as they went past. seriously i think like 95% of the vehicles on the road were taxis and that's no exaggeration, perhaps an underestimate even. nuts.

had supper at kopitiam at somerset and somehow it tasted really good. second time in a month where i was out in the dead hours of the night. naturally supper at that time outside always tastes good. lol then it was time to find a way home.

fortunately there were ppl like mq who had an idea of how to get back in early mornings from town. i kinda found out that there was a night rider service that stopped at my bus stop! super kühl and a pleasant surprise to a late night.

i mean, after an unexpected three and a half hour concert, knowing that you still have public transport home is very very comforting. i took NR1 home.. and when i stepped on the bus..

SURPRISE! danny and chenkai! lol it was pretty much like the old days on the bus to/after a waterpolo match. only this time with less of us. but they were having some argument over taxi or bus and it was quite funny. the bus ride seemed much shorter.

okay not like orchard to toa payoh is very long anyway. but i even enjoyed the bus ride.

reached home around 2 plus and slept slightly after. too tired to wash up and all so just changed and quickly rinsed my mouth before crashing. what a fantastic concert, what an exhilarating night.

not something to regret doing before i go in. okay yes i screwed up my sleep patterns pretty bad again - and now my clock is way off YST. but all that's life, and i should go off now before i worsen it any further.

this is one night to remember in 2008.

jacky cheung ftw!~
